Data Entry - First Call

The first call feature in MiMS allows for basic case information to be entered when a call is first received to then be later converted into an at-need case.

The “FIRST CALL” module is designed for gathering and printing the usual first call information when the initial death call is received. You may also track the status of Death Certificates with this module. It may be used for all death calls including those such as out-of-town embalmings that you would not normally enter into MiMS. This information can be integrated into the standard CASE INFO data tables by clicking “Transfer to At-need” button.

The FIRST CALL window can be brought up anywhere in MiMS by pressing F9 or from the MAIN MENU, click FIRST CALL. Type the case information as you would normally write it out. By using the appropriate drop-down boxes, this can be accomplished very quickly.

You can also track the whereabouts and status of your outstanding death certificates. If you have several outstanding certificates, a report indicating when and where to deliver or pick up certificates can be generated for the person responsible for that function. Click “Certificate Pickup”, fill in applicable data (add or edit), click Print, then click the Print icon. When done,
click “Save and Exit”.

To make the current record an At-need record, click “Transfer to At-need”. All the appropriate information will automatically transfer to the At-need area.

To view all FIRST CALL records, click Find Case, and window open to sort through all existing First Calls for selecting will. To delete a FIRST CALL record, load the First Call you don’t need any more like you are going to work on it and then click on the Delete Record and confirm the warning prompt.

There is also a setting that can be turned on in Setup Options called “Delete First Call Data older than 14 days”. If it is set to “Always” then all First Calls after 14 days will be auto-deleted from MiMS. If the setting is set to “Ask” then a prompt will display asking if you wish to delete the older First Calls. If you say “Yes” to this prompt the old case(s) will be deleted for you.
