Laptop Functions
The laptop functions in MiMS allow for MiMS to be utilized on laptops outside of the office and then synch with the main database when back in office.
Laptop functions are built into every MiMS system. These functions allow you to easily create a full copy of your office's database on your laptop computer, so you can take your information outside the office for meetings, arrangements, etc. Then, when you return to the office, you can easily update your office's main database with the information you entered while you were gone - all without overwriting information that was entered in the office while you were away.
The laptop functions are located under the Utilities Menu.

Setting up Laptop Functions
Setting up the 2 computers to get the laptop functions setup is where most of the work is involved in using the laptop functions.
- Install MiMS on the laptop as a Laptop Install.
- Once the install is completely finished and you are able to enter MiMS, Skip the Registration screen.

- Once inside of MiMS follow the instructions in Appendix A3: Firewall Configuration for determining the database TCP\IP port the local database is using.
- Follow instructions for the MiMS Network Setup Install to connect MiMS on the laptop to the main server.
- Once you are connected to the main server follow the instructions in Appendix A3: Firewall Configuration for determining the database TCP\IP port of the server.
- On the laptop close MiMS.
- If your laptop is running any operating system newer then Windows XP follow the next several steps, if the laptop is running Windows XP then skip to step 12.
- Right Click on the Launch MiMS shortcut icon. In the drop-down menu click on “Properties”.

- In the Properties window go to the Compatibility tab and on the Compatibility tab check the box at the bottom to “Run this program as an administrator”.

- Once the box is checked click on the button for Change settings for all users and check the same “Run this program as an administrator” in the new window.
- Once this last check box is set, click the “OK” to both of the Properties windows.
- Reopen MiMS.
- The system will ask you to register MiMS. Once you have MiMS registered use the “Change Database” option and change back to the laptop’s database which will be the default database to connect to.
- Once connected back to the local database follow the instructions for Backing Up your MiMS database on the main machine.
- Take the backup file created and restore it into the laptop following the Restoring Data instructions.
- Once the data is restored and you reopen MiMS. Now if you have not already done so follow the instructions in and configure the firewalls on both the laptop and the server.
- Once the firewalls have been configured, click on the Help Menu and click on “About”. Do this on both the laptop and the server.
- In the new window check the MiMS version numbers in the lower right corner on both machines and make sure they match.
- In either case click OK to this new window.
- If the version #s do not match then click on File Menu on both machines and click on “Check for Web Update”. One or both machines should give you a prompt for updating. After updating the versions numbers will now match.
- Now repeat step 5 to connect back to the server.
- Lastly, once connected back to the server click on the Utilities Menu, go down to the Laptop Functions Menu and click on the “Copy Data to Laptop” button. The system should go through a few steps and say it is successful and you are done setting up the laptop functions.
Copy Data to Laptop
While your laptop is at the office it will function like any other workstation. Before you take your laptop out of the office you will want to copy all of the latest data to the laptop.
To copy the latest data to the laptop go under the Utilities Menu to Laptop Functions and then click on Copy Data to Laptop.
When the Copy Data to Laptop function is complete the laptop’s database will have all of the same information as the server and will be looking at itself for the data. You now can take the laptop out of the building and continue to use MiMS.
Sync Laptop Cases to Main
When you bring your laptop into the office you will want to make sure that any new data entered into it is transferred to the server.
To copy the data from the laptop to the server go under the Utilities Menu to Laptop Functions and click on Sync Laptop Cases to Main.
**When syncing the data back to the server only the First Call, Case Info, and Pre-need area data is copied to the main server.
