MiMS Network Setup Instructions
MiMS can be configured to operate on a network with a server computer and multiple workstation computers.
To use MiMS on a Network, MiMS MUST be installed on each computer. Follow instructions below for connecting each workstation.
- On the computer that has MiMS first installed on it, make sure the MiMS Elite folder is shared. This folder should contain all of the documents that will be used on the computers.
- On a computer that is not the server, make sure you install it as a “Workstation”.
- After the installation is finished open MiMS.
- MiMS will eventually give an error that it cannot connect to the database and ask if you want to connect manually.

- Click on the “Yes” button and a new Database Server connection window will appear.

- The 1st box is a drop-down box and is the only box we will be working with in this window. Leave the second box labeled Database alone. It needs to stay as “MiMS”.
- If there are no firewalls interfering when you click on drop-down and you should see the network name of the computer that contains the MiMS database.
- From the drop-down list click on the correct computer containing the MiMS database. If the computer name does not end with a “\MiMS” make sure to add the “\MiMS” to the end of the computer name after selecting. Finally click “OK” and MiMS should then connect to the database and open up.
- In the event that you do not see the name of the computer containing the MiMS database 1st open MiMS on the server.
- Once MiMS is open click on the “File” menu and go to the “Database” menu.
- At the bottom on the “Database” side menu click on the “Database Engine Info” item.
- A new window will open displaying information regarding the MiMS database. Make sure to right down the Database Server IP(s), the TCP/IP Port, and the Connection string. When done taking the information click “OK”.

- Back on the workstation “Database Server” window try typing in the exact name that was on the Connection String line and clicking “OK”. If everything is working correctly then MiMS should connect to the database and open up.
- In the event that using the information from the Connection string does not work replace the computer name part of the Connection string information with the Database Server IP(s) and click “OK”. If everything is working correctly then MiMS
should connect to the database and open up.
- Finally, if using the IP Address of the database server still does not work add a comma and the TCP/IP port to the end of the Connection string and click “OK” and MiMS will connect to the database and open up.

After getting MiMS to open go to the MiMS “Setup Options” located under the File menu.
In the setup options make sure the Documents, Updates, and PDF Directories are all pointing to the shared MiMS Elite folder on the server. If they are not then use the Browse folder option to find the MiMS Elite folder in the network or you can hand type in the path.

**Please note the Update and PDF Directories are pointed to a sub-folder of the MiMS Elite folder.
