Assignment Funding
Tribute Pay offers a connection with C&J Financial to conveniently submit insurance assignments right through your website admin. Claims are also paid out through your Tribute Pay merchant account.
Use of the Assignment Funding feature requires a Tribute Pay merchant account to be enrolled.
Submitting a Claim
To start the submission process, click Submit New Claim. This will open up the claim submission process.
Complete the fields to start the claim:
Decedent Name: (Optional) You can select a decedent name from the drop down list of published obituaries, or leave the field blank to enter the name at a later step.
Funeral Home Reference Number: (Optional) This optional field is for your internal use if you have a reference number you’d like to tie to the claim.
Funeral Home: (Mandatory) Choose the location to associate with this claim. If you have multiple merchant accounts, this will also determine which merchant account the claim will be paid to.
Main Contact: (Mandatory) Choose the employee who will be the main contact from the drop down. If the employee you need is not available, click Edit Contact List to select the user to add to the list. This person will be the main point of contact with C&J for questions about this claim.
Secondary Contact: (Optional) If applicable, choose a secondary point of contact.
Funeral Director: (Mandatory) Select the funeral director assigned to the claim. This person will also receive communications about the claim. This person may be the same as the main contact.
Click Begin New Claim.
The claim submission process consists of four main steps:

-
Beneficiaries
-
Policies
-
Policy Information
-
Notary
-
-
Forms
There is also a Summary section on the right, which builds and updates as you complete the 4 sections of the claim submission.
Deceased Information
The deceased information section collects information about the decedent to be able to properly identify them with the insurance company. Most fields here are optional, however the more you can fill out at the time of submission, the better as this helps to gather the information required for the claim.
Select Continue Claim once completed.
Beneficiaries
Enter any beneficiaries for the policy/ies being submitted. If multiple policies are being assigned, you’ll be able to select which beneficiaries belong to which policy in the Policies step.
Like with the deceased information, many fields are optional, however the more information you can submit here the better.
If the funeral home is the beneficiary on the policy, select the checkbox and this will populate your funeral home information automatically.
Policies
The policies section has several sub sections including policies, insurance company and notary. This is also where you’ll enter the amount being requested on the assignment. If the decedent has multiple policies that the family is wishing to assign, this process of adding policies can be completed multiple times.
Click + Add Policy to start adding the first policy.
Click + Add Insurance Company to begin the policy entry process.
Insurance Company - Choose the insurance company for the policy from the drop down list. If the company you need is not in the list, choose “Other” and enter the company name into the Additional Notes field below. This drop down also will search as you type.
Group Life Policy - If the policy is a group life policy, choose yes. Additional fields required for group life claims will populate to be completed.
Policy Information - If policy information like the policy number, value, original policy availability or additional assignments on the policy are known, fill out the fields accordingly.
If you have multiple policies for the same insurance company that are to be assigned, there is an option to Add Additional Policy further down in the process.
Policy Value - If the original value of the policy is known, you may enter it here. This will auto-calculate the remaining policy (if the whole policy is not being assigned) in the summary panel on the right.
Original Policy- Choose whether the original policy is available.
Additional Assignments - If there are other assignments on the policy (ex. cemetery is also assigning funds from the policy), please choose yes and complete the additional fields that display.
Select Beneficiaries- Beneficiaries added in the previous step will be available to be selected here. Select any beneficiaries applicable to this policy being entered.
If you have multiple policies to add for the same insurance company, select the + Add Additional Policy button to add the secondary policy. Fields will pop up for you to enter the (additional) policy number, policy value etc.
If you have another policy from a different insurance company to add, select the + Add Insurance Company button to add the next policy, then repeat the policy process as listed above.
Once the insurance company/ies and policy/ies have been added, input the requested amount to be assigned.
Choose whether the assignment fee has been included in the processing amount by choosing “yes” (the deposit received will be the request amount, less the fee), or whether the fee has not been included in the request amount by choosing “no” (the deposit received will be the same as the funeral home request, the assigned amount will be the request amount plus the fee).
Once completed, click Save Policy. This submits the policy to C&J Financial. Click Continue Claim to move to the next step.
Select a Notary (Optional)
If you have a Notary that is associated with this claim (some insurance companies require it, others don’t), you can select them from the list of added Notaries. If the notary that you are using is not on the list, click the + Add Notary button and complete the fields to add a new Notary to your system.
Forms
Once the claim has been submitted, a list of required forms and documentation for the insurance company/ies will populate on the forms page.
Forms that are clickable can be clicked to download. They will download as a .pdf and any available information will pre-populate to the form.
Once forms are completed, or for any documentation requested, files can be uploaded by clicking the upload icon.
The TIA Assignment Form will be required for every claim. This is the form that allows the claim to be assigned. The claim verification process cannot start until the form has been downloaded, completed and re-uploaded to the system. If the form lists “Notarized” at the end of the file name, it is an insurance company that requires notarization.
Summary Bar
As you work through the claim, a summary section is displayed on the right-hand side of the screen that updates as you add information to the claim.
Amount Requested - Amount that you are requesting.
Fees - The calculated fee for this assignment.
Amount to Assign - The amount being requested for the insurance company to assign. This may be the same as the request amount, or may be higher, depending on whether fees were included or not.
Additional Funds Available- The policy value, less the amount to assign, to show you the remainder of what is left over on the policy after the assignment.
