Crowdfunding

The Tribute Fund (also known as crowdfunding) allows families to collect financial contributions from friends and relatives—often to help offset the cost of funeral services. When activated, a “Contribute” call-to-action appears directly on the obituary.

warning To enable crowdfunding, you must have an active Tribute Pay merchant account. Contact your Account Manager for more details on enrolling.

How the Tribute Fund Works

  • A contribution button and progress bar automatically displays on the obituary’s Tribute Fund tab once activated.

  • Each Tribute Fund has a goal amount and an end date.

  • Payouts are made to your merchant account as they are processed - no need to wait until the end of the campaign to receive funds! These transactions follow the typical deposit schedule.

  • You can re-start a completed fund by setting a new end date.

Setting Up a Tribute Fund

You can set up crowdfunding directly from the obituary page within your Tribute Central Office (TCO) dashboard:

  1. In TCO, open the obituary where you want to enable crowdfunding.

  2. Scroll to the “Activate Crowdfunding” section (just below the RSVP section).

  3. Click Activate Crowdfunding.

  4. A pop-up will appear prompting you to confirm activation.

  5. Enter the goal amount and end date for the fund. For the goal amount, you may want to consider factoring in the admin fees on top of the family’s requested amount.

  6. Save your changes.

Once saved, the Tribute Fund button and progress bar will appear on the obituary.

Crowdfunding Fees

  • Administration fee: 4% per contribution

  • Processing fees: Standard Tribute Pay processing fees also apply

A full breakdown of transactions and fees is available in TCO under Tribute Pay > Crowdfunding. Click View or Print to see detailed reports.

Crowdfunding Deposits

Payments made toward Tribute Funds are batched together with your other Tribute Pay transactions for the day. This means:

  • You’ll receive a single combined deposit to your merchant account for all Tribute Pay activity (website, TIA, and crowdfunding) on that day.

  • You can view your deposit history under TCO > Tribute Pay > Statements & Transactions > Deposit Log.

  • Click View next to any deposit to see the individual transactions included.
